This can increase the skin's sensitivity to the sun. That's why we recommended only using Retinol in the PM and always using a broad spectrum sunscreen during the day. Try our SPF as the last step in your AM skincare routine to layer into your Retinol skincare routine. How often to use Retinol If you are new to Retinol, start off using it 1-2 times per week and increase gradually if your skin can tolerate more frequent use. We suggest introducing new products slowly so that you can easily identify any source of irritation. Layering moisturisers after Retinol We recommend using a moisturiser after layering Retinol into your skincare routine. This is due the fact Retinol can have drying effects on our skin. If you’re only just starting out and your skin is on a sensitive side, you could apply Retinol on top of moisturiser to minimise the risk of dehydration. When to start using Retinol We recommend starting at age 25, or when the first signs of ageing begin to show. Products you should avoid using with Retinol; AHAs : It is not recommended to use Retinol and Alpha Hydroxy Acids (Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Apple Cider Vinegar, AHA) at the same time as this can lead over exfoliation and sensitised skin so alternate and use on different nights. Vitamin C : Avoid mixing Vitamin C & Retinol products at the same time. We suggest using Vitamin C in your AM routine and Retinol in your PM routine. Seeing results from using Retinol Retinol can take up to six weeks to start showing results. This is due to the time it takes for your skin cells to be replaced. Consistency is key, so continue with you routine even if you’re not seeing the effects straight away. It can be very tempting to increase use of some products to try and see quicker results, don't overdo it though. More is not always better change for future. Overuse can cause irritation and sensitivity.
