I replaced my old 217 real hair brush and there is no similarity between this new synthetic version and the old one. The outline of the product photo makes it look the same but it's flatter, smoother, and does not blend at all like the old one. There are knock off 217 real hair brushes that are closer to the original one than this one. Bring back the real hair brushes or MAC's rep is just going down. The brushes were the hallmark of your pro status but now I have to get my brushes from other brands. SO sad. Decisions to change products in this way are not taken lightly but we believe using cutting edge technology we have been able to create brushes that look, feel and perform as well as natural hair brushes. Synthetic fibers will also stand the test of time as they are more resilient and resistant to breakage than natural hair and clean more easily since they have no porous cuticles. On initial purchase we do find these brushes appear more compacted and the shape slightly different so we recommend giving your brush a wash or two prior to use as this will allow it to regain the fluffier shape we know and love.
